b. Gr/ro stallion b. April 1, 2002; by Lemon Drop Kid, out of Cosmic Fire, by Capote
Cosmonaut broke his maiden at Saratoga in his fourth career start. A multiple Gr. III winner, Cosmonaut’s biggest wins included the Arlington Handicap twice (2006, 2007, second in 2008), the Golden Gate Fields Handicap (2006) and the Fort Marcy Stakes (2009). After a second place finish in the Shadwell Turf Mile (Gr. I) at Keeneland by a neck, he went on to finish third in the 2007 Breeders’ Cup Mile (Gr. I) at Monmouth. Known as a hard trier with tremendous heart, Cosmonaut only finished worse than 5th once in all of his graded stakes attempts. He retired in 2009 after his final start in the Fourstardave Handicap at Saratoga with earnings of $1,397,723 and a record of (8-8-3) from 36 starts. Cosmonaut was owned by Flying Zee Stables, bred by Patricia Pavlish, and raced for trainer Phil Serpe for most of his career. In 2010, Cosmonaut began his stud career at Highcliff Farm in NY. From his six crops of foals, he sired 39 winners with total progeny earnings of over $3 million. His top foals include Gr. III winner Wonderment, and Selenite, a winner of over $300,000.
