Last Sunday, the horses were gleaming in the sun, all happy to see me. The farm looked so nice!

Today...not so much. The horses are all muddy, and didn't want to come out in the POURING RAIN! All the volunteers were soaked from their walk from the parking lot...but everybody ate and they are all in their nice, cozy houses. Be Bullish counted his blessings, watching from within the barn.

Stop by next Saturday, when the weather is sure to be better!

We just celebrated our 5^th anniversary with Old Friends today. Cabin Creek means so much to me. I always wanted to be around horses since I was a little girl, and then I wanted a horse farm for all of my horses. I was planning the barn, I could smell it. Then life got busy with great things, my husband and our sons, our business and all that goes with it. Quiet moments, which were rare, were when I thought about the Dream Farm, thoroughbreds; I needed to be with them again.

The summer is finally here! The boys are so happy to see the sun!

This year marks our 5th anniversary as Old Friends at Cabin Creek. We’ve grown and changed a lot…formed a family for the horses. The backbone of any charity is the volunteers who see a need and give freely of themselves for a greater good. It seems to take a village and then some and we have been blessed.

This past winter was the harshest I can remember and our volunteers kept showing up. Twenty below, 40 mile an hour winds, zero visibility, frozen water buckets, icy roads, what felt like the longest winter ever they came to care for our beloved horses. Thankfully the horses handled it well and spring has arrived. So many old and new friends sent donations to keep the grain and hay coming.

Thank you, we couldn’t do it without your help. Hope to see you all at our upcoming events so that we can begin to prepare for next winter right away.

The volunteers of Old Friends at Cabin Creek are amazing.

I’ve learned so much from them all. To see these folks give so much of their lives to the horses and get to watch them fall in love with their favorites is a gift. Our horses are thriving from all the attention and the people seem to get so much out of it also. Old Friends couldn’t survive without the people who come over and work hard taking care of the farm and the horses.

Horses seem to attract a special kind of person……..the best kind!
